Getting Involved With SCRC & Ham Radio
Getting involved is easy, come to a meeting!
The Suffolk County Radio Club meets on the third Tuesday of every month at the Grace Lutheran Church in Mastic Beach. Click here for directions.
In addition to it being a "hobby" and experimental outlet for many Hams, Ham radio provides the broadest and most powerful wireless communications capability available to any private citizen anywhere in the world. The Amateur Radio Service frequency bands are the place on the usable radio spectrum where you as an individual can develop and experiment with wireless communications. Hams not only can make and modify their own equipment, but can create whole new ways to do things.
Some Hams enjoy assisting in emergency communications. ARES, the Amateur Radio Emergency Service has formal, national agreements to provide emergency communications aid for FEMA, DHS, The American Red Cross, the Salvation Army, and many other response organizations.
If you would like to join the Suffolk County Radio Club, download an application (pdf) and either mail it in to our treasurer or better yet bring it with you to the next meeting. See the calendar for the date of the clubs next scheduled meeting.
