The Suffolk County Radio Club reached a new milestone on the evening of March 6th, 2026, as we hosted our very first Friday Night Tech Night. The lights were bright at our Yaphank clubhouse, and the energy was even brighter as over 40 members and curious non-members gathered to dive deep into the technical side of our hobby.
The turnout exceeded our expectations, proving that the appetite for hands-on learning and technical experimentation is stronger than ever. From veteran operators to those who haven’t yet earned their call signs, the room was a mix of expertise and enthusiasm.
The clubhouse was buzzing with activity throughout the night. Key highlights included:
- Collaborative Troubleshooting: Members brought in projects and gear, finding immediate help and advice from peers.
- Mentorship in Action: It was inspiring to see seasoned elmers working side-by-side with newcomers, passing on the technical skills that keep our hobby evolving.
- Networking: Beyond the circuits and code, it was a fantastic social event that allowed local operators to connect in a relaxed, informal environment.
This inaugural event was just the beginning. The success of this past Friday reinforces SCRC’s commitment to being a hub for STEM education and all things TECH in the NYC-Long Island Section. Whether you are interested in digital modes, antenna theory, or hardware hacking, there is a place for you at our workbench.
The discussion tonight went way beyond amateur radio, some of topics overheard were computer security, automotive computer tuning, lock picking, scouting and many many more varied topics.
The Club is already looking forward to our next, FIRST FRIDAY TECH NIGHT, on April 3,2026.
