At the January meeting the board convened at 7pm and many items were discussed including fund raising ideas for 2020. Most of the fund raisers in 2019 were led by a small core of members – getting more members involved in these efforts is key to meet our goals for this year, the largest of which is getting the club trailer project completed. Ken, KD2DZZ passed around a sample of a proposed club printed newsletter.
At 8pm the general meeting began and many guests (and new friends!) were welcomed! After introductions many things were discussed including how we run our weekly nets and how learning that process might help to keep an orderly communications channel in an emergency.
The president, Rich KD2NJA issued this statement: “We had a real good meeting last night, we had a total of 31 people who attended with many representatives from CERT. Hopefully we can have joint meetings again and work with CERT in their endeavors.”
Suffolk County CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) is an official volunteer emergency preparedness program authorized by FEMA. We found that many members of CERT in attendance were already licensed radio operators and SCRC welcomes them to use the club repeaters. Bob, WB2NFL passed around an example QSL card when the discussion switched to DX contesting. The meeting ran late as members of both groups stayed to talk.
Ken, KD2DZZ presented Eagle Scout and ham (licensed since June, 2019) Bradley, K2BIA with a certificate and a two year membership to the SCRC. Ken, KD2NJA presented Nate, K3LTC with a certificate of appreciation for his work getting the club website up and running again.
